Life Skills Coaching
CS Life Coaches are well versed in engaging and motivating foster youth in the process of successfully transitioning to adulthood and independence. All Life Coaches are trained to administer the Ansell Casey Life Skills Assessment (ACLSA) and develop a comprehensive transition plan in collaboration with the youth, foster parent, and referring worker.
Our vocational program includes supervised work experience, vocational skills training, and career exploration. Clients learn to find jobs, interview strongly and dress for success. Youth get work experience at our Community Greens Lawn Care Service or our new auto-detailing site.
The Life Coach addresses a variety of health related issues to ensure the client is doing everything possible to develop a healthy lifestyle. This includes linkage to mental health professionals for assistance in counseling, medication management, and frank talk regarding pregnancy prevention and safe sex.
Life Coaches assist clients in location safe housing options to prevent homelessness. Options include apartments, rooms for rent, and linkage to relatives.
All clients are assisted in the establishment of a savings account and a savings plan. With our community partner, TowneBank, CS ensures clients save in a manner, which builds toward future financial stability. This effort includes assistance in developing a realistic budget.
All participants are oriented to using the Hampton Roads TRT system in its entirety. Life Coaches accompany youth on initial trips and familiarize them with the TRT routes and schedules. In addition, youth are linked with driver's education programs and assisted in obtaining their first car.
The Life Coach promotes the completion of appropriate educational programs including GED, H.S., Diploma, or college programs.
Each client receives their own organizational and motivational tool we call the CS Portfolio For Success. This innovative tool assists clients in organizing their lives and developing realistic objectives in key life domains.
At CS we realize that clients may need to re-enter the program to get back on track to meeting their goals. Our unique approach features the utilization of Facebook to stay in touch with clients and give them a vehicle to reestablish contact when necessary. In addition, CS outcome data is compiled to assess the Passport Program's success in preparing clients to live independently in the community.
